the sustainable development goals () were adopted by all united nations member states in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. they address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice, and so on.
the 17 sdgs are integrated - that is, they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability. for example, the covid-19 has shocked the world with the and speed of its spread. people around the world have been infected, which affects the achievement of the sdg 3—good health and wellbeing. the impacts of the pandemic on education, economy and social development can also threaten the achievement of other global goals.
each team of participants should focus on a case topic that is relevant to the 17 sustainable development goals. you are supposed to showcase your policy knowledge and application through the analysis of a public policy case study concerning sdgs topics. you have the opportunity to pick an issue in local community or one that affects people around the world. the topic you focus on should allow you to investigate an issue from various aspects, but it should not be too broad.
