on the evening of june 12, mr. manuel c. menendez iii (孟德士), the founder and ceo of mcm group holdings ltd., visited the school of public policy and management of tsinghua university (hereinafter as "tsinghua sppm") and delivered a keynote lecture titled "china-u.s. economic relations: past, present, and looking forward" to faculty and students. dean zhu xufeng, attended the event and delivered a welcome remark, and associate dean yinchengzhi hosted the lecture. students from 10 countries attended the lecture.

during the lecture, mr. menendez first quoted "it is delightful to have friends coming from afar" from the analects of confucius, admiring the openness, inclusiveness, and friendliness of the chinese people. then, he vividly explained the miracle of china's development since the reform and opening-up through a series of data and pictures. as the us and china's economies are mutually dependent and intertwined, mr. menendez believes that the two nations will not and cannot decouple, and their economic and trade relations need to move forward in a positive direction. harmony is a core value of the chinese traditional culture, and he advocates for more frequent dialogue, exchanges, and communication between the two countries. he emphasizes that cultural exchanges between the two nations are the key to bridging the "trust deficit."
